The Bachelor's degree programme in Academic Speech Therapy is aimed at individuals seeking a scientifically based, practice-oriented course of study in the field of speech therapy and logopaedics. The target group primarily includes school graduates with an interest in medical, psychological, and educational issues who wish to work therapeutically with children, adolescents or adults in the future – for example in practices, clinics, rehabilitation centres, or research. The programme is also suitable for career changers from social, language-related, or healthcare fields.
These Admission Requirements You Must Meet
For admission, you need one of the following qualifications:
- General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur)
- Subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or advanced technical college entrance qualification
- a prior education recognised as equivalent pursuant to § 54 Hessian Higher Education Act, in particular a passed master craftsman examination or completed advanced training
- professional qualification with at least two years of training and subsequent, usually three years of professional experience, as well as passing an aptitude assessment procedure
There is no Numerus Clausus (NC). Applications are possible all year round. Practical professional experience in the field of therapy, education, or psychology is advantageous but not a prerequisite.
You should enjoy working with people and possess a strong sense of empathy. Communication skills, patience, and a good language sense are important, as you will work with clients of various ages and backgrounds. Organisational talent and willingness to reflect on your therapeutic activities will help you successfully combine practical and theoretical phases. Study Content in Detail
In the Bachelor's degree programme in Academic Speech Therapy at Hochschule Fresenius, you acquire in-depth knowledge of speech, articulation, voice, and swallowing disorders in people of all ages. The core content includes the fundamentals of scientific work, language development, linguistics, phonetics, and psychology. You engage intensively with disorders of language acquisition, speech fluency, and pronunciation and learn both diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. This includes practical exercises in the therapy of voice, speech, and swallowing disorders, neurological and geriatric disorder patterns, as well as prevention and health promotion.
Through elective modules, you can tailor your profile individually. Topics such as innovative treatment methods, interprofessional collaboration, or participation in research projects are available to you. Already during your studies, you complete extensive practical phases with placements and accumulate more than 900 hours of practical experience to practise therapeutic-reflective and quality-oriented action.

How does the programme proceed?
The programme is organised as a seven-semester full-time on-campus study, with German as the language of instruction. Throughout the entire duration of your studies, you attend theoretical courses, deepen your knowledge through practical exercises, and take part in several integrated practical phases. The practical phases (a total of over 900 hours) are an integral part of the curriculum and offer you a realistic insight into the everyday life of speech therapy. Additionally, you complete your own practical project and finish the programme with a scientific bachelor thesis.
The study progression includes project-oriented teaching formats, seminars, research-related colloquia as well as individually selected modules. At the beginning, you lay the foundation, in the higher semesters you set your own priorities, design elective modules according to your interests, and prepare specifically for entering the profession or for a subsequent master’s programme.

The degree programme is offered at the locations Idstein and Frankfurt am Main. At the Idstein campus, you study in modern teaching buildings, with the Department of Health & Social Affairs housed in Building B. The facilities include specialised practice and therapy rooms for practical exercises as well as laboratories for interdisciplinary work. In Frankfurt, the studies take place directly in the vicinity of a hospital, which provides a high level of practical relevance and professional networking opportunities. Both locations offer access to modern libraries, learning centres, and support you in building a professional network already during your studies.
Costs and financing options at a glance
The monthly tuition fees amount to 625 euros, resulting in total costs of 26,250 euros for the seven-semester programme. In addition, a one-time registration fee of 695 euros is payable. The price includes courses, practical phases, individual counselling, free elective additional courses in personal development, languages, career development, and numerous networking opportunities.
Various options are available for financing: You can apply for BAföG, take out a student loan (e.g. KfW), or use a scholarship. There are also special funding programmes in cooperation with clinics and practices, where you receive financial support during your studies if you commit to working for the sponsoring company for a set period afterwards.
