The bachelor's degree programme in Nutritional Science via distance learning is aimed at everyone who wants to professionally utilise their interest in healthy nutrition, biosciences, and prevention. The target group includes school graduates with a (technical) university entrance qualification as well as professionally qualified individuals who want to establish themselves in healthcare, nutritional counselling, the food industry, or health promotion. The course is especially suitable if you want to study flexibly and independently of location and later pursue careers such as nutrition consultant, nutrition expert in institutions, specialist in research and quality management, or self-employed coach for nutrition and health.
Admission Requirements: What Formal Criteria Must You Meet?
To enrol in the bachelor's degree in Nutritional Science at Hochschule Fresenius, you need a university entrance qualification. This is fulfilled with:
- General university entrance qualification (Abitur)
- Technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur) or subject-specific university entrance qualification
- Master craftsman certificate or advanced training (at least 400 hours of instruction, e.g. technician, specialist, business administrator)
- Completed vocational training of at least 2 years with subsequent subject-related professional experience of at least 2 years and a passed subject-specific university entrance examination
- Alternatively, with intermediate school leaving certificate and at least 3 years of vocational training with a final grade of 2.5 or better: participation in the first semester as a trial study; with a lower grade additionally a subject-specific entrance examination
A numerus clausus (NC) is not required. You can also apply without traditional university qualifications if you have relevant professional experience and pass an aptitude test.
You should have an interest in scientific and medical contexts, as modules such as biochemistry, anatomy, food chemistry, and statistics are core content. Self-responsibility and good time management are necessary because distance learning requires independent studying. For later work in counselling and prevention, communication skills, empathy, and openness to digital media and online communication are especially important. Practical experience in the health or food sector is advantageous, but not a prerequisite.

Examinations are primarily taken digitally; exams take place, if necessary, at selected examination centres. The entire study organisation – from enrolment to graduation – runs via the digital infrastructure of Hochschule Fresenius. Supervision and exchange with lecturers and fellow students also take place in the protected online spaces of the university.
The distance learning programme thus offers you maximum flexibility without having to forego personal support. There is no fixed study location – all central functions are available digitally.
Costs and financing
The Distance Learning Nutrition Science programme at Hochschule Fresenius incurs tuition fees starting at 259 euros per month. The university offers various time models between which you can choose flexibly – the monthly payments rise with a shorter study period and decrease accordingly with a longer period.
